Norwegian Embassy at Indonesian Women Parliamentarians Caucus

Minister Counsellor of the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta participated in a recent National Consolidation of the Indonesian Women Parliamentarians on April 21-22 where around 350 women parliamentarians from all over Indonesia gathered.

Inaugurated by H.E. Vice President Boediono, the theme of the consolidation was “Welcoming the 2014 Momentum for the Public Welfare”.   The purposes are to strengthen the Women Parliamentarian Caucus all over Indonesia, to improve the role of women parliamentarians, and to formulate strategies to increase the representation of women in parliament in the 2014 election.

Ms. Marianne Damhaug, Minister Counsellor of the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta, gave a presentation about the evolving female representation and involvement in the Norwegian Parliament and politics. Another presentation was given by a resource person from Brazil.

Norway was invited last year to be one of the resources at the conference by the Chief Coordinator of the Committee for the Consolidation, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas, during the visit of the Norwegian Deputy Minister of International Cooperation, Ms. Ingrid Fiskaa.

In response to the request for support by the organizing committee, Norway has also supported the Consolidation of Indonesian Women Parliamentarians through The Asia Foundation.
