Happy Norwegians celebrated Norway’s National Day in Hanoi

A piece of home far away from home was the result in Hanoi when Norway’s National Day was celebrated with national flags, a children’s parade, Norwegian food and traditional games for both children and adults in Hanoi on the 17th of May.

Norway’s National Day is often celebrated in the same traditional way all around the world, and also in Hanoi, where some 40 Norwegians came together to celebrate the joyous occasion and took part in the traditional children’s parade. The 17th of May is often referred to as the day of children in Norway, and also in Vietnam both young and adult participants did their best in several rounds of traditional games and fun.

Formal reception in the evening

Later in the evening more than 300 guests attended a formal reception at Hotel Melia in Hanoi, where the guest of Honor, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Mr. Bui Thanh Son emphasized the strong bilateral links together with the Norwegian Ambassador, Mr. Ståle T. Risa.

The guests also enjoyed a musical performance given by one of Vietnam’s foremost young violinists, Ms. Do Phuong Nhi. She has been part of the musical cooperation program between Vietnam and Norway known as Transposition, and on 17th of May she played a Romance by the Norwegian composer Johan Svendsen.
