KONE to Provide Escalators to New Wuxi Metro China

In a press release on 27 June 2012, Finnish Escalator experts Kone has been selected to deliver and install 82 escalators to the second phase of the future Wuxi metro line 2. Wuxi Metro is a metro system in the city of Wuxi, Jiangsu province in China. The first line is planned to open on 2014.

The line 2 will run 26 km east to west across the city of Wuxi and stop at 22 stations. Kone’s solutions will make people flow smooth and safe for passengers at eleven of the stations.


All 82 escalators are Kone TransitMaster® 140 heavy-duty escalators. These escalators are designed to enable the seamless flow of large number of passengers safely and reliably. One of the metro stations is connected to the high-speed railway station in Wuxi.

Located in Jiangsu Province, Wuxi has approximately 3.2 million inhabitants. The Wuxi metro is currently under construction and will initially have two lines with 45 stations along 56 km of track. Kone will install the first equipment in mid-2013 and metro line 2 is expected to open for operation at the end of  2014.


The order was booked in the second quarter of 2012.
