Finns living in Thailand now have their own local society. The society has been officially named as Finns in Bangkok – Krungthepin Suomalaiset. The Finns held their first annual meeting in Bangkok on 13.09.2004.
The group had previously met in May when the society had been founded. The other members of the board are: Kerstin Tarna, Sini Lindfors, Raija Rapo, Kaisa Pudas and Satu Lujala.
The society has been founded to enhance cooperation and connect the other Finnish associations (Finnish Ladies’ Club and Finnish School in Bangkok) bringing all members together. The new society, Finns in Bangkok, will also offer the possibility for Finns to communicate in Finnish and preserve cultural heritage while abroad.
In their meeting held in the restaurant Vinotheque; the society agreed upon the new name, regulations and coming events consisting of a soon-to-be traditional pub-night in Gullivers Bangkok on the third Thursday of every month (membership not required). Other activities include sports, culture and different activities for children.
