Food Safety Standards and Traceability seminar

On September 11, 2012, the Swedish Embassy in Thailand together with the Thai Ministry of Industry and the Thai National Food Institute (NFI) held a seminar on the theme Food Safety Standards and Traceability in Bangkok. The seminar is the latest deliverable from the Thai-Swedish Working Group on Industrial Cooperation and the initiative for this particular seminar was taken by State Secretary, Magnus Kindbom during his visit to Bangkok in December 2011.

The seminar was opened by the Thai Minister of Industry, H.E. Phongsawat Svastiwat and also by Swedish Ambassador, Klas Molin. A special presentation of the Thai export market regulations was presented by Dr. Ponprome Chairidchai, Director Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

Swedish companies IKEA, Tetra Pak and Alfa Laval shared their experiences in the areas of food safety and traceability.

Two specialists from the Swedish National Food Agency, Mr Paulo Kisekka-Ndawula and Mr. Christian Berking, discussed Swedish and EU regulations and working methods.

Approximately 150 people from Thai companies and agencies attended the seminar, which heard concluding remarks by Head of the Swedish Asia-Pacific Department, Ambassador Helena Sångeland.

Before ending the seminar, there was an exhibition of Foodland Sweden in the form of information materials with Swedish hors d’oeuvres for everyone to taste.
