Swedish parliamentarians sign Manila declaration on Burma

Swedish parliamentarians from the left, middle and right scale of politics have signed a common Nordic declaration in Manila conditioning Burma’s upcoming chairmanship of Asean 2006.
     The Nordic parliamentarians demand that the opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners in Burma must be released and real political reforms introduced before the country can be allowed to chair Asean.
     The eight Swedish parliamentarians participated in the IPU spring session, held in Manila between 3 and 8 April.
