Laos’ environment project supported by SIDA

A signing ceremony between Swedish Ambassador to Laos Mrs Annlis Aberg and Mr Bountiem Phitsamay, the president of the Lao Science Technology and Environment Agency, STEA, was held at the Lao Plaza Hotel in Vientiane on June 9th.
     Sweden International Development Agency (SIDA), the agency directly involved in this project, granted USD 9 million on a second phase of the Laos’ National Environment Management and Strengthening Project.
     The first phase of the National Environment Management and Strengthening Project started from February 2001 and will end in September 2005.
     The second phase project will be operating from 2005 to 2010 following the end of its first phase.
     The STEA aims to create awareness for environment management and protection in Laos with socio-economic development. The funds given will cover human resource development and capacity building for Lao officials.
