Denmark Re-opens Jakarta Embassy From March 6

Danes in Indonesia will once again be able to have their interests handled by an official Danish embassy following news from the Danish Foreign Ministry Friday in Copenhagen that the embassy in Jakarta will re-open Monday 6. Since the ministry decided to close the Danish embassy and pull out all of its diplomatic staff in Jakarta on February 11 – including Ambassador Niels Erik Andersen – Danes in Indonesia have had their interests handled by the Dutch representation.

The reported threats against Danes that caused the diplomatic retreat never materialized, and on February 21 the Danish ambassador returned to Jakarta to prepare for the re-opening of the embassy. This weekend, the remaining staff will follow and the Foreign Ministry reports that operations will be back to normal as of Monday.
