Aker in Search of Malaysian Trainees

Norwegian Aker Kvaerner, a supplier of technology-based products and solutions for the oil, gas and energy industries has identified Malaysia as one of the four locations to seek candidates for its exclusive international trainee programme.
This is the second year the programme provides a handful of the very best Master’s graduates the opportunity to develop, learn and build a career in a world-class group. The search is on for trainees to fill just 12 places for the international trainee programme. The other three countries are Brazil, China and Russia.
Aker is a global industrial group, with more than 55,000 employees in 45 countries and US$13 billion (RM45.76 billion) in revenue. It was recently ranked among the top 15 reputable companies worldwide in an international survey by Reputation Institute, 2006. The group is also a major European shipbuilder and a significant player in the fisheries industry.
The Aker training programme runs for a period of two years and comprises three eight-month assignments in Aker businesses worldwide. Through the assignments, trainees acquire insight into business drivers, profit and loss, and commercial thinking.
The strategy behind the programme is to develop top talent that will enable the group to expand its capabilities to win and execute business in new growth markets.
To gain one of the 12 coveted places on this unique programme, the spokesperson said candidates need more than top of the range academic capabilities.
“Principal experience from technology industry, international exposure, and fluency in English are a must,” the spokesperson said.
“An industry preference for making things, a realistic and hands-on attitude are characteristics that the company looks for.”
The Aker international trainee programme is designed for students with a Master’s level business education, who graduated during the 2005-2007 period, with a maximum of two years work experience after graduation.
Interested participants of the programme have until March 1 to submit their applications.
