Launch of Modern Dance Talent Prize 2007 in Vietnam

A press conference was held in the Danish Embassy in Hanoi on Tuesday June 19, 2007 to launch this year’s talent prize sponsored by the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund.
The Danish Ambassador, Peter Lysholt Hansen, presented the theme of the annual talent prize for 2007. Flanked by Mr. Pham Anh Phuong – the event facilitator and Mr. Nguyen Cong Nhac – a member of the judging board, the Ambassador revealed that the talent prize 2007 awards a young talented Vietnamese choreographer on contemporary dance. By this award, the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund wishes to support and promote the genre and to give the experimenting choreographer a chance to win acknowledgement of his/her talent.
Maximum seven choreographers will be short- listed and they will receive funds for developing their ideas into full performances. These seven choreographers will present their pieces at a big showcase event in the Youth Theatre, Hanoi, during the week of Danish Public Diplomacy, 12-18 November 2007 in connection with other Danish activities. The final decision of the Talent prize 2007’s winner will be taken by the audience and be announced during the event.
Interesting questions from the journalists at the press conference mostly concerned the unconventional approach of this year competition in giving the audience the right to decide the prize winner.
” We highly appreciate diversity of opinions. We should trust the audience. I believe that arts is by the people and for the people” – stressed the Danish Ambassador. A unanimous panel emphasised to the journalists the advantage of having the final decision taken by the audience.
The winning prize is 3.000 USD and should be seen as an encouragement for the talented choreographer to invest in creating new dances and improve his/her career.
