Teo Chee Hean, Singaporian Defence Minister on his first official visit to Sweden discussed with his Swedish counterpart, Mikael Odenberg in Stockholm about the modernization of the armed forces, regional security issues in Asia and Europe and areas of future co-operation.
They said even though Sweden and Singapore are far apart both countries face similar challenges due to globalization. Mr Teo will also visit Karlskrona Naval Base to meet Singapore Navy servicemen currently undergoing submarine training in Sweden.
In 2005, Singapore signed a contract to acquire two Vastergotland-class submarines from Sweden.
The submarines are expected to enter service from the year 2010.
