Strong Growth for Finnair’s Asian Traffic and Load Factor on The Rise

The demand in Finnair’s Asian traffic, measured in passenger kilometers, was up 34.9% in August compare to last year. The passenger load factor rose three percentage points to 82.5%. European traffic grew nearly 30%. Demand in North American scheduled traffic was down by 4.5% and the passenger load factor was 86.6%.
Domestic capacity was reduced and the passenger load factor improved. Finnair’s entire scheduled traffic increased by 27.1% compared to July last year. The passenger load factor was 77.2%, up 1.7 percentage points. The number of passengers carried was 615 169, up 12.6%.
Finnair leisure traffic decreased by 10.5% from the previous year. As capacity was cut with 1.4%, the passenger load factor was down 7.8 percentage points. Finnair’s total capacity and demand increased by 19.8% in July, resulting in a passenger load factor of 77.1%, same as last year. All Finnair Group airlines altogether transported 709 832 passengers, which is 8.6% more than a year ago.
Finnair’s Tallinn-based subsidiary Aero AS, carried 23 335 passengers (- 60.8%) on routes between Helsinki and the Baltic capitals and within Southern Finland. Aero figures are respectively included in Finnair Group total figures. At the end of June, Finnair sold its Stockholm-based subsidiary airline FlyNordic and its traffic performance is no longer reported as part of Finnair Group statistics.
For better comparison, equivalent figures for last year have been adjusted accordingly.
Arrival punctuality of scheduled flights was 83.7% (based on a fifteen minute standard), -4.7 points lower than in August 2006. Leisure flights included, arrival punctuality was 82.5% (-4.5 p.p).
