Lexus Cup: Sorenstam Elects Her Team

Annika Sorenstam has named Americans Nicole Castrale and Natalie Gulbis as her two captain’s picks for the international team ahead of next week’s Lexus Cup in Singapore.
The Swede, who is the playing captain of the international side for the LPGA Tour-sanctioned event, unveiled her 12-player squad on Tuesday along with Team Asia skipper Pak Se-ri.
“Natalie and Nicole will be strong additions to our team line-up in Singapore. I am very happy with my 11 team-mates and think we are going to give Team Asia a real challenge this year,” said Sorenstam.
“Getting the balance right within a team is always a challenge, but I think we have a great mix this year and everyone is keen to finish the season on a high note.”
In addition to Sorenstam, the international squad will also include four other players in the top 10 of the women’s world rankings – Norway’s Suzann Pettersen, Sweden’s Helen Alfredsson and Americans Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr.
Meanwhile, Pak has opted for Korean compatriot Sarah Lee, her vice-captain in Perth last year, and Japanese debutant Mayumi Shimomura.
“Sarah was a great support to me and the other players last year so she was an obvious choice and she will once again be a key player on my team,” Pak explained.
“I am also very happy to have Shimomura joining us for the first time. It will be a great experience for her and I know she will have a lot of fun with us in Singapore.”
World number two Yani Tseng of Taiwan is the highest-ranked player in a squad that includes eight Koreans, including world number 10 Lee Seon-hwa.
