Norway Govt Salutes Ilonggo Seafarers

Thousands of students from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University and from other maritime schools in Western Visayas gathered in Iloilo City on Wednesday.
They attended the the “Career Show” in relation to the 60th anniversary of the Norwegian-Philippine Partnership for Seafarers. The event was spearheaded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
No less than the Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Stale Torstein Risa arrived in Iloilo City for the one-day event.
Risa acknowledged the contributions of Ilonggo seafarers in the shipping industry saying that Ilonggo mariners are hardworking and very efficient when it comes to work.
Risa added that 90 percent of the trade around the world is being serviced by shipping lines.
This is one of the reasons, he said, why Norwegian government is offering scholarship programs for students who intend to pursue a career in the maritime industry.
