Monica Holmgren has passed away

Former Executive Director of the three Scandinavian chambers in Thailand, Ms. Monica Holmgren has passed away in Sweden, writes the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce website http://www.dancham.or.th
     Monica Holmgren succeeded in 1994 Birgitta Ludtke as the Executive Director of the Thai-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, which had at the time just been established. She held this position until her retirement in May 2000 putting her distinct mark on the management and activities of the Chambers.
     Shortly after she and husband Lennart returned to their home in Skaane, Sweden.
     At the farewell reception 19th May 2000, held at the Oriental Hotel, she received praise and acknowledgement for her performance and contribution to the three chambers, reports the DTCC website. Among the speakers attending in her honour were a large number of past and at that time current Chamber Presidents.
      Monica Holmgren was diagnosed with breast cancer during her last year in office. At a meeting at the Swedish Church in Bangkok, she told openly about this and the chemotherapy she underwent. She also joined a support group for other breast cancer patients in Thailand. Before leaving back to Sweden, she was declared succesfully cured of the illnes.
     Monica Holmgren eventually succumbed to another form of cancer.
