Vietnamese jamming of Radio Sweden broadcastings causes strong protest

The Swedish Broadcasting Corporation, SR, will protest and act forcefully against regular jamming of Radio Sweden’s Swedish language broadcasts in South East Asia, says Ms Kerstin Brunnberg, Director of Programs at SR to the daily SvD.
The interruption of Radio Sweden’s broadcastings has gone on since 26 October and is caused by two strong jam transmitters close to Hanoi.
It is the 14.00 hours Swedish time broadcast that is jammed.
SR has together with the Swedish development agency Sida trained and supported Vietnamese journalists since 1996 in a project aiming to strengthen democracy and human rights.
“This is a paradox. It is so undemocratic. They suppress free speech when they act like this,” says an upset Kerstin Brunnberg to SvD.
