Honorary Ph.D for Dr Niels Gunnar Søndergaard

Kasetsart University – Thailand’s Agricultural University – on Tuesday 20 July 2010 bestowed an Honorary Ph.D in Animal Science on the Danish Agronomist Dr. Niels Gunnar Søndergaard for his role in introducing modern dairy farming to Thailand in the 60’s and 70’s. The degree was handed to Mr. Søndergaard by HRH Princess Chulabhorn Walailak. 
 Dr. Niels Gunnar Søndergaard established the Thai-Danish Dairy farm in Muak Lek 160 km north of Bangkok and became the first Director of the project.
 On Monday 19 July, a seminar and an exhibition was held at the Kasetsart University where the dairy project and the cooperation between the dairy project and the University was described. A special section of this exhibition was dedicated Dr. Søndergaard who in January this year was also elevated to Commander of the Most Admirable Order of Direkgunabhorn and presented with the order by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
 The speakers at the seminar honoring Dr. Søndergaard included the Dairy Promotion Organization’s Dept. Governor and several other VIP’s of the KU and the dairy industry.
