Finland Supports One UN Process in Vietnam

An additional amount of 2.1 million EUR was awarded to the UN Vietnam who will continue the implementation of the One UN Program until the end of 2011 after completion of the phase of 2006-2010.

The most important reason for the extension is to allow this Program to better link to the new Social Economic Development Plan of the Government of Vietnam.

The Government of Finland supports the One UN Program which enables the UN agencies to be represented by one actor in developing countries. Ambassador Pekka Hyvönen and UN Resident Coordinator John Hendra shared the view that the biggest challenge facing Vietnam in the future is to obtain stability in spite of changes.

The Finnish Government is committed to continuing to support the UN to strengthen the system capacity and efficiency. Finland has so far financed 2 million EUR for the UN’s country program for a period of 2008 and 2010.
