Khun Charnchai Charuvastr, Vice President of the Danish-Thai Chamber, passed away on Friday 11 February 2011 from a heart attack. He was 65.
President Peter E. Romhild, writes the following obituary:
“After obtaining a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University in Indiana, Khun Charnchai started his career with IBM in 1971. Holding senior positions in South East Asia, he returned to Thailand in 1993 to take the helm at IBM Thailand.
He later moved to Samart Corporation in 1995 to serve as managing director and was named president of the Thailand Management Association in 1997. He was also a director of Krung Thai Bank from 1998-99.
In late 1999, Khun Charnchai co-founded the Thai Institute of Directors (IOD) at the Stock Exchange of Thailand, which provided him a platform from which to cultivate good governance in both the public and the private sectors.
Together with his wife Connie they also started in 1993 Aviva Décor Limited, which represent many high end products from Denmark, such as Bang & Olufsen, Louis Poulsen and Fritz Hansen. Khun Charnchai was also the Chairman of Siam Paragon Development Co.
Khun Charnchai joined our Chamber early last year as Vice President and worked on the Membership and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committees. Despite his very busy schedule he was always ready to support our Chamber and provided valuable insight into Thai political and economic affairs.
Khun Charnchai is survived by his wife Connie, to whom we send our deepest condolences in this difficult time.”
