Anders Normann, a Danish businessman who has been working and living in Thailand for forty years, will be awarded the title of Knight of the Dannebrog Order on Monday 24 May 2004 in Bangkok. He will be the first Danish businessman residing in Thailand ever to receive the top Danish honour.
Danish Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Ulrik Helweg-Larsen, will represent H.M. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in conferring the knighthood upon Mr. Normann in a special ceremony to be organized at the Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok on Monday evening.
Mr. Normann, who has just turned sixty this May, is the chairman of The East Asiatic (Thailand) Plc. (EAC Thailand), which was established in 1884. The company is the first Danish commercial establishment in Thailand, and is one of the Danish groups with the longest history in South-East Asia.
During his forty years in Thailand, Mr. Normann has been managing director of Dumex for 15 years, then managing director of EAC Thailand before taking the chairmanship of the Danish-Thai company in 2001. He is also a board member of Bangkok Nursing Home and Phuket-based Marine Biological Centre.
In contribution to the bilateral relation between Denmark and Thailand, Mr. Normann has been serving as an Honorary Consul-General in Thailand since 1997.
