Thai Boy and his Mother Drowns in Norway

4 found dead after small boat disappears during short trip off Norwegian coast. The bodies of three adults and a child have been found in the water off the coast of northern Norway after their small private boat disappeared during a 15-minute trip.

Police investigator Grete Birkeland said Friday the victims are a 12-year-old boy and his mother from Thailand, a man in his 30s from Afghanistan, and a Norwegian man in his 60s.

The three foreign nationals were residents of the small coastal village of Melbu, 970 kilometres (600 miles) northwest of Oslo.

The group set out on Thursday afternoon to make the trip across the fjord from Melbu to Fiskebol.

Police say the passengers made two brief phone calls to family members indicating that the boat was in danger of sinking. The boat has not been found.
