A taxi driver was arrested in Nonthaburi’s Pak Kret district yesterday for allegedly robbing and attempting to rape a 38-year-old Norwegian woman.
Police identified Cha-um Thongchai, 40, as the suspect. He was detained after police found he had used the victim’s mobile phone in Bangkok’s Phra Khanong district.
He allegedly confessed to committing the crime, saying he took five tablets of methamphetamine and attacked the woman while under the influence.
The woman, a Norwegian national who has asked that her name be withheld, lodged a complaint with Pak Kret police at 2am on Saturday.
She said the driver of a pink taxi who picked her up in front of a restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 23 robbed her and tried to rape her when they were only 100 metres away from her house in Nitchada Thani housing estate in Pak Kret district.
