Shanghai delegation visited Norwegian University

A delegation of 13 people from Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) led by Prof. Wang Ruzhu, Vice Dean of the Power and Energy Engineering School, recently visited Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

This visit was to further promote the cooperation between SJTU and NTNU in the education and research on sustainable energy.  In 2010, the two universities signed up the agreement to establish the SJTU-NTNU Joint Research Center in Sustainable Energy. And a preparation meeting was held when the delegation led by Prof. Arne Bredesen of NTNU visited SJTU in May 2011.

More than 30 people attended the meeting at NTNU’s main building of Lerchendal Gard, which had a history of more than 200 years. NTNU President Mr. Torbjorn Digernes delivered an open speech, followed by a wide range of presentations from two universities. Prof. Wang Ruzhu talked about the future development of China’s energy sector;  Ms. Guo Liang, Deputy Chief of the International Exchange Office, briefed on SJTU’s international cooperation and exchange; and  Dr. Rune Volla with the Research Council of Norway (RCN) introduced the energy research and international cooperation strategy in Norway. The two parties also updated each other with their respective research programs which had been scheduled earlier in May.

SJTU and NTNU achieved to confirm 4 joint research projects in which 6 PhD students from both universities were to be recruited. The two sides also agreed upon the proposal on jointly educating master students in the area of sustainable energy, and upon the issues like the cooperation model of joint education as well as the management of the joint research center. RCN also committed to continue its supports to the two universities.
