Bangchak has announced that its subsidiary, OKEA ASA, has made a new oil discovery at the Talisker exploration well in the Brage field (PL 055) in Norway. The find is estimated to hold commercially recoverable reserves of 16–33 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe). Further reserve assessments are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.

According to a statement filed with the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Chaiwat Kovavisarach, Group Chief Executive Officer and President of Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited (BCP), said that OKEA, acting as the operator with a 35.2 percent ownership stake, made the discovery in the Cook and Statfjord formations. Early evaluations suggest production potential at commercial scale.

The Talisker well was drilled to a depth of 10,223 meters. Initial estimates indicate recoverable reserves of 2–7 mmboe in the Cook formation and 14–26 mmboe in the Statfjord formation. Additional assessments are ongoing in two layers of the Brent formation, with results expected later this year.

The discovery underlines OKEA’s growth strategy of leveraging existing petroleum infrastructure in nearby areas, combining geological expertise with advanced drilling technology to maximize value and extend field lifespans.

Earlier this year, OKEA also reported success at the Mistral field, where it holds a 20 percent stake. Preliminary estimates there suggested reserves of 19–44 mmboe. Taken together, these results confirm OKEA’s focus on cost-efficient and sustainable petroleum development while expanding production from high-potential fields.
