Carlsberg Vietnam has officially inaugurated the expansion of its Phu Bai Brewery in Hue, marking a major milestone for the Danish brewer’s operations in Southeast Asia. The ceremony on 26 August was held in cooperation with Hue City People’s Committee and attended by representatives from the Embassy of Denmark, Carlsberg Group executives, local partners and community stakeholders.
With an investment of nearly USD 90 million, the expansion increases brewing capacity by 50 per cent, making Phu Bai Carlsberg’s largest beer production facility in Asia. The site will produce both international premium brands such as Carlsberg, 1664 Blanc, Tuborg and Somersby, as well as local favourites including Halida and Huda, which has been closely tied to Central Vietnam for more than 35 years.
The new facilities incorporate sustainable technologies, including a high-efficiency brew line using 20 per cent less water, AI-enabled electric forklifts, and renewable electricity and biomass-powered steam. The brewery also achieved more than 1.4 million safe working hours during construction and has set ambitious goals of zero waste to landfill by 2025 and net-zero production emissions by 2028.
Carlsberg, which first entered Vietnam in 1993, today employs more than 3,800 people directly and indirectly. The company’s community initiatives include providing clean water to over 9,000 households and supporting local disaster relief. With the expanded brewery, Carlsberg Vietnam underlines both its long-term presence in the country and its commitment to sustainable growth in line with Vietnam’s net-zero targets.
