China wants onshore oil in Greenland

Officials from Greenland has told, China has shown interest in bidding for onshore oli in Greenland.

China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) and China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) want to bid for gas blocks that will be offered in 2021, according to Business Times.

Energy minister in Greenland Aqqalu Jerimiassen met with CNPC, CNOOC and China’s National Energy Administrationon Monday. The Chinese wish follow-up meeting according to Jerimiassen’s deputy, Jorn Skov Nielsen.

He also said that, Greenland will set up a representative office in Beijing “within a year,” to boost trade ties with China.

Greenland is a self-ruling part of Denmark. In September, Denmark expressed worries about Greenland considering cooperating with China in an upgrade of two airports on the island. Greenland choose not to work with the Chinese company.
