Swedish authorities detained a Chinese citizen on 29 January 2025 after he was found operating a drone over Stockholm’s government district, according to a report by Aftonbladet. The individual was located on Långholmen with the drone in his bag.
Just a short distance away, another Chinese citizen was discovered. They denied knowing each other. But it later emerged, according to reports, that they had both traveled from China on Friday and shared the same room in a hotel in Stockholm.
Both Chinese citizens are now suspected of violating Sweden’s aviation regulations.
This incident follows a similar case from early January, when Swedish authorities suspected Chinese citizens of filming sensitive infrastructure in northern Sweden using advanced equipment. According to Aftonbladet, these cases have raised concerns about potential security breaches and unauthorized surveillance activities involving foreign nationals in the country.
Authorities have not disclosed further details, but the incidents come amid increasing European scrutiny of drone activity in restricted areas.
