In mid-January, the Swedish Ambassador Lars Fredén led a business delegation to Changsha, capital of Hunan province.
11 Swedish companies in sustainable urban development and environmental technology, joined the delegation together with representatives from the Embassy of Sweden, Business Sweden (Swedish Trade Council) and the Government Offices of Sweden’s secretariat for international environmental technology cooperation.
Together with the city, a well-attended workshop was organized, at which the companies made presentations. Decision makers from the city administration and investment companies attended the workshop. The delegation was received by Changsha’s Mayor Mr Zhang Jianfei, who also signed the cooperation agreement together with Ambassador Fredén. The agreement, Memorandum of Understanding, focuses eco-city planning and development and has pointed out Xiangjiang New City as the first cooperation project. A working group is now to be set up, promoting Swedish environmental technology within the eco-cities of Changsha. The city has shown an interest in eg. energy planning, water treatment, waste management and technology to reduce emissions to air.
