Danish-backed project in Vietnam turns food waste into vegetables

A new Danish-supported project in Vietnam will turn food waste into compost and grow vegetables for disadvantaged communities.

Food waste in Vietnam may soon become fresh vegetables for families in need.

A new project supported by Denmark aims to turn organic waste into compost and use it to grow food for disadvantaged communities in Vietnam.

The initiative, called Green Hero Solution, was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on March 12. It is a partnership between Vietnamese organisations and the Danish embassy.

Under the project, organic food waste will be collected and converted into compost. The compost will then be used in community gardens in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho to grow vegetables for vulnerable households.

The project also aims to reduce landfill waste and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The initiative is part of the green strategic partnership established between Denmark and Vietnam in 2023, focusing on sustainable agriculture, resource management and the transition to a greener economy.
