Denmark announces new non-refundable aid for Vietnam

Denmark will disburse up to US$100 million in non-refundable official development assistance for Vietnam in 2013-2014, the Danish ambassador to Vietnam says.

Part of the above money will be used in assisting the development of poor communities in Lao Cai, Quang Nam, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Ben Tre, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen told media in Ha Noi on July 12.

Other areas that Denmark will support Vietnam next year include green growth, climate change adaptation, culture, water and sanitation, governance and administrative reform.

According to the EU Blue Book, Denmark is the biggest non-refundable ODA provider for Vietnam within the European Union in 2013-2014.

Regarding the other fields of cooperation, Ambassador John Nielsen said the two-way trade turnover and the number of Danish companies doing business in Viet Nam keep on rising quickly.

Denmark also pledges to help green the Vietnamese economy, the Ambassador stated.
