On Monday 1 July, Denmark officially took over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, succeeding Poland.
In Beijing, the transition was marked with a symbolic handover ceremony held in the garden of the Polish Embassy.
According to the Embassy of Denmark in China, the event reflected the importance of unity and continuity within the EU, especially at a time of growing global uncertainty and geopolitical competition.
“The EU is facing a new international order marked by uncertainty, global strategic and economic competition, and a rising level of conflict,” the embassy said in a statement on Facebook.
During its six-month term, Denmark aims to prioritise the EU’s green transition, improve the bloc’s security, and boost competitiveness. The Danish Presidency has committed to strengthening the EU’s ability to act decisively and take responsibility for its own future.
The ceremony in Beijing was attended by European diplomats and representatives from the Chinese government.
