The Denmark-Vietnam Alumni Network team took third place in its category at the Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Racing Festival on 4 October.
Racing on Hanoi’s West Lake, the team reached the final in the division for embassies, international organisations and international alumni networks. It crossed the finish line in three minutes and 29.92 seconds, according to the network, known as DAN Vietnam.
The Danish Embassy in Vietnam provided financial support for the team’s participation. Following the race, DAN Vietnam congratulated the paddlers, supporters and those who had brought the team together.
Nearly 900 participants
The wider festival brought together nearly 900 participants from embassies, international organisations, universities, businesses and sports clubs. Its programme included both dragon boat racing and stand-up paddleboarding competitions.
Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organised the event with Vietnam Airlines. The festival ran on 3–4 October, with the dragon boat finals taking place on the second day.
Dragon boat teams raced over a 500-metre course, turning at the 250-metre mark. Each boat carried ten paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson.
DAN Vietnam connects Vietnamese alumni who have studied or trained in Denmark. The network began in 2003 and forms part of the global Danida Alumni Network.
