Denmark is ready to share its experience and expertise with Vietnam as the Southeast Asian country seeks to develop a large offshore wind industry, Lina Gandløse Hansen, the Danish Ambassador has said.
In an interview with Vietnamese newspaper Nhân Dân, Hansen said Denmark could support Vietnam with experience in areas including regulation, offshore-area planning, financing and the development of wind projects.
Vietnam has set a target of developing between 6 and 10 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030. Hansen described the target as ambitious but achievable if Vietnam establishes a clear and predictable framework for investors.
She also pointed to opportunities for Danish companies to become more involved in Vietnam’s emerging offshore wind sector, including through investment, technology, local manufacturing and knowledge sharing.
Denmark and Vietnam have cooperated on energy since 2013, with offshore wind forming part of their partnership. The two countries also established a Green Strategic Partnership in 2023 covering areas including the green transition and sustainable energy.
Denmark has more than three decades of experience with offshore wind and has positioned the sector as an important part of its own green transition.
Hansen’s comments come as Denmark and Vietnam mark 55 years of diplomatic relations and seek to deepen cooperation on green growth and investment.
