Finnair to fly to Guangzhou, China year-round during winter 2019

Finnair, Finland’s largest airlines, announced it is extending seasonal Guangzhou route to year-round operations as stated in the press release on April 17, 2019.

The new route will operate between Helsinki and Guangzhou with two weekly departures during the winter season 2019-2020.

In 2016, Finnair launched its Guangzhou route as a summer route that currently departs four weekly frequencies in summer. And this spring Finnair will provide the route with its new Airbus A350 aircraft, adding both passenger and cargo capacity to the route.

Christian Lesjak, SVP, Network and resource management, Finnair commented on the recent route’s extension to Guangzhou via the press release.

“The extension of the operating season of our Guangzhou route is a logical next step in our Asian strategy.

“Travel between Finnair’s Chinese destinations and Europe is increasing, and we are happy now to be able to offer year-round operations to our passengers and cargo customers.” he revealed.

The announcement also mentioned Finnair’s moving to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport’s new Terminal 2 which “is optimized and designed for smooth transfer traffic,” said Finnair.

This move will support the planned code share between Finnair and China Southern offering extensive domestic connections from Guangzhou onwards.

Currently, Finnair serves seven destinations – Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi´an and Hong Kong in Greater China, and will in summer season 2019 operate up to 42 weekly frequencies to China from its Helsinki hub.
