Finnish Embassy at opening of 8th Myanmar School of Politics

The 8th Myanmar School of Politics, a programme aimed at enhancing the democratic knowledge and skills of politicians in Myanmar and furthering their practice of multiparty dialogue, was kicked off on Saturday 18 March 2017.

Katarina Tapio, Deputy Head of Mission at the Finnish Embassy in Bangkok, was present at the opening ceremony where she held a speech and meet with the participants.

The programme is organized by Demo Finland, Political Parties of Finland for Democracy, a co-operative organisation of all the eight Finnish parliamentary parties, which seeks to enhance democracy by facilitating collaborative projects between Finnish political parties and political movements in new and developing democracies and Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy, a democracy assistance organization that supports political parties in developing democracies.

19 leadership politicians from ten political parties of the Kayah State in Myanmar is participating at the programme. They will be part of a 20 day course where they will learn about multiparty dialogue and the democratic role of politicians.
