A Finnish man wanted in Norway for murder and large-scale drug trafficking has been arrested in Hua Hin, Thailand, following an undercover operation by Thai immigration police.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Daniel Reijo Karvonen, was the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice and had been living under the radar in the coastal town of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Thai authorities say Karvonen entered the country to evade international law enforcement.
According to Immigration Division 3, the arrest took place after investigators tracked the fugitive to a condominium. Officers disguised themselves as fitness trainers at the building’s gym, where they were able to confirm his identity and make a swift arrest without incident.
Karvonen is wanted in connection with three major charges issued by Norwegian authorities. The most serious relates to the murder of a man in the town of Kongsvinger in November 2024. He is also accused of playing a central role in a cross-border narcotics operation involving organized crime groups and drug smuggling between Norway and Sweden.
“This is a serious effort under the directive of the National Police Commander,” said Police Colonel Chairit Anurit, head of Immigration Division 3. “We are committed to removing foreign criminals who try to infiltrate and operate within our borders.”
The arrest is part of Thailand’s wider crackdown on transnational crime. Authorities emphasized their continued cooperation with international partners, including INTERPOL, to prevent fugitives from using the country as a haven.
Karvonen remains in Thai custody and is expected to be extradited to Norway for trial.
