Cambodia’s Minister of education visits Pippi’s exhibition at the Swedish Residence

The Swedish Embassy in Phnom Penh announced on 29 January that Swedish Pippi Longstocking has come to Cambodia.

The announcement reads: “Pippi Longstocking, unafraid and happy and so strong she can lift a horse, has come to Cambodia!”

Pippi is the main character of the children’s books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi has turned 75, is world-famous and continues to inspire children.

This week H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia, honored Pipi with a visit to the Swedish residence’s exhibition Congrats Pippi! which celebrates Pippi’s anniversary. Following Pippi’s example the Minister of Education lifted Pippi’s horse!

The exhibition contributes to conversations about the life of the female author Astrid Lindgren, children’s perspectives and participation, social norms, not least for girls, the importance of culture for children, and the key role that education plays in children’s lives.

“There are many things to tell about Pippi – stay tuned!” added the embassy.
