Indonesia expects its growing green economy to create around 3.88 million jobs in 2026, highlighting opportunities for deeper cooperation with Denmark on skills development and the green transition.

The projection was published by Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower in its Employment Outlook 2026 report. The ministry expects job growth to come from renewable energy projects, industrial modernization, transport electrification and circular economy initiatives.

The forecast comes shortly after Indonesia and Denmark explored closer cooperation on green job creation, with both countries discussing ways to prepare workers for emerging industries linked to the energy transition.

According to Anwar Sanusi, head of the ministry’s Planning and Development Body, Indonesia must ensure workers have the skills required by rapidly expanding green industries.

“Employment opportunities arising from the downstream agenda and the green economy need to be seized by preparing workers who bring the competencies needed by industries,” he said.

Denmark has become a key partner for Indonesia’s green transition, particularly in renewable energy, sustainable industry and workforce development. Danish expertise in offshore wind, energy efficiency and vocational training is increasingly relevant as Indonesia seeks to build a greener economy while creating millions of new jobs.

The ministry said vocational training programmes are being aligned with industry demand to ensure workers can benefit from the shift towards sustainable industries.
