A shared concern over workplace safety brought Sweden and the Philippines together in Manila this week, as officials and industry leaders confronted the risks facing workers in some of the country’s most hazardous industries, Daily Tribune reports.
The Sweden-Philippines Safety and Sustainability Forum was co-organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, Business Sweden, and the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE). It focused on how to reduce accidents and improve occupational safety systems.
Government representatives, safety experts and business leaders discussed practical solutions to long-standing workplace hazards, particularly in high-risk industrial environments.
A central presentation came from Swedish access solutions company Alimak, which highlighted the dangers of working at heights. The company shared international best practices and emphasized how technology and training can prevent accidents and save lives.
Swedish Ambassador to the Philippines Anna Ferry underscored the role of the private sector in advancing decent work and sustainable growth, linking business responsibility with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 8.
The forum comes as Philippine authorities step up workplace inspections and expand resources for the Occupational Safety and Health Center following recent industrial incidents.
