A woman arrested at Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport for smuggling 41.7 kilograms of cannabis was not intending to smuggle the drugs into Norway but was instead on her way to Ireland, her home country, according to a new report by Irish Mirror.
The woman, who had arrived from Bangkok, was detained by Norwegian authorities after customs officers discovered the large quantity of cannabis in her luggage. While initial reports suggested she was smuggling drugs into Norway, the latest revelations indicate that Ireland was her final destination.
She allegedly claimed that the luggage was handed to her in Thailand, asserting she was unaware of its contents. Norwegian authorities are investigating whether she has links to an international drug trafficking network.
The woman remains in custody under strict conditions, with no access to visitors or communication. Norwegian law imposes severe penalties for drug smuggling, particularly when linked to organized crime.
The case has also raised concerns about security measures at Bangkok’s airport, where cannabis exports remain illegal despite its domestic decriminalization.
