Malaysia is considering nuclear energy as it looks to move away from coal. And Finland is stepping in as a potential partner.

The talks took place during a recent meeting between the Finnish Embassy in Malaysia and the country’s main energy company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), according to a LinkedIn post by the Embassy of Finland in Kuala Lumpur.

Big shift ahead

Finland is positioning itself as a key partner, offering expertise in safe and sustainable energy solutions as Malaysia is under pressure to change its energy mix as it pushes towards net-zero targets.

Nuclear power is now being discussed as a long-term solution.

The two countries are already working together in parts of the energy sector, but cooperation could now expand. Further talks are expected, with both sides looking to deepen cooperation in the coming months.
