Vietnamese-Swedish artist Maj Trang Olson’s new exhibition opens at the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi on 2 October and runs until 7 October.

Titled Maj Trang Olson: Continuing Her Father’s Footsteps, it brings together her paintings and works by her brothers, Nguyễn Hồng Hưng and Thiền Zen (Paul Vân Thuyết). The exhibition honours their father, the late painter Hồng Vân, known for his portraits of Hồ Chí Minh.

Born in Hanoi 1956, Olson moved to Sweden in 1990. Between 2010 and 2025, she held 25 exhibitions, including 11 in Sweden. Her paintings explore nature and memories of Vietnam through expressive brushwork and dreamlike images of birds, skies and women.

Sweden–Vietnam art exchange to follow

The works will next feature in Maj Trang Olson – Vietnam-Sweden Art Exchange, opening on 16 October at the Vietnam Fine Arts Association Exhibition House in Hanoi.

Swedish painter Anna Therese Svarrtvadet will join Olson and her brothers, bringing a fourth artistic perspective to the exhibition.
