Malaysia and Finland deepen cooperation in education and circular economy

Finnish is known worldwide for their education system.

Finland is emerging as a key partner for Malaysia as the two nations ramp up collaboration in education centred on sustainability, circular economy and climate solutions.

Speaking at the “Climate Solutions from Finland” programme in Helsinki, Malaysia’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Finland, Al-Fadil Adam, said Finland’s expertise in sustainable education models aligns well with Malaysia’s reform efforts.

Malaysia plans to integrate Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) from Year 1 by 2027, and sees Finland as a strategic collaborator in designing curricula that embed sustainability across disciplines.

The cooperation extends beyond classrooms, with Malaysian agencies such as MIDA and MGTC engaging in Finnish-led initiatives in areas like renewable energy, circular business models and electric mobility.

This growing Malaysia-Finland link offers a Nordic gateway into Southeast Asia’s evolving sustainability and green education agenda.
