Chonburi police on October 3 arrested the man, who misrepresented himself as a motorcycle-taxi rider who had allegedly robbed and raped of a Danish tourist in late September. The man identified as Banleng Hodcharoen, 29, denied the wrongdoings even though he had been positively identified by the victim (name withheld), according to police.
Police investigators said they had firm evidence against the suspect in the form of footage from video surveillance camera at a petrol service station where he picked up the victim, who hired him to take her to the home of her relative in Pattaya City, where she had been staying.
Banleng instead took her to a cassava plantation where he sexually assaulted her and robbed her of valuables, including cash. The alleged crimes took place on September 27.
The arrest was made by Chonburi police and the suspect was presented to journalists at a press conference held by Pol.Maj.Gen.Thanet Pinmuangngam-commander of police region 2 over the weekend.
