Former EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager is visiting Singapore this week as the first Danish recipient of the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship.

Vestager is in Singapore from 17 to 22 August as the 85th fellow of the programme, which aims to strengthen understanding and relations between Singapore and other countries.

During her visit, Vestager is scheduled to meet Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam as well as several senior government ministers.

Her programme will focus on areas including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, economic competitiveness, sustainability and innovation.

Vestager previously served as the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age and as European Commissioner for Competition from 2014 to 2024.

She currently chairs the Board of Governors of the Technical University of Denmark.

The Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship was established in 1991 and brings prominent international figures to Singapore to learn about the country and develop closer bilateral ties.

According to Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vestager’s visit will also include meetings with business leaders and other figures from Singapore’s public and private sectors.
