MASBA – Fiesta Mexicana – Great Violin Concertos at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas

It is not every day that a young woman conductor, who is also celebrated as one of the most compelling conductors of her generation, leads the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra!

When it happened on 5 April, MASBA members and their guests were there to experience the Mexican Alondra de la Parra make her Malaysia debut, conducting the orchestra in folk-and-dance-inspired Latin music as well as classical masterpieces by Beethoven and Mendelssohn.

In addition, we were also given a special treat by Josef Spacek, the young world renown Czech musician who is fast emerging as one of the most accomplished violinists of our time. His solo performance was greatly appreciated by the audience, who did not want him to leave the stage.

To get us into the right festive mood, the evening started with cocktails and delicious fingerfood at KL’s hotspot Marini’s on 57th.

Many thanks to all members and guests who joined us for this truly a magnificient concert! We are looking forward to doing it again.
