Midnight curfew starts this weekend

No news regarding the recently announced midnight curfew, one of the most popular night clubs in Bangkok tells. The curfew has a big impact on the clubs’ revenues.

Bangkok police has ordered all nightlife and entertainment venues, parties and events to close by midnight for the next two weeks – starting today. One of the most popular night clubs in Bangkok “Ku De Ta” tells that it is not unusual and they have experienced it before, but the impact on the business is huge.

“The curfew has a big effect on our business – especially the night club,” Ku De Ta tells. Usually the club is open until 6 in the morning.

“We hope that the curfew will not last for two weeks, but we have not heard anything new yet”.

So far there has not been an explanation from the police, but curfews at this time of year are the norm due to the Buddhist holiday of Makha Bucha.

However, according to Coconuts Bangkok, in recent weeks city police have been under pressure and under fire from the military, who’ve sought to shake up the ranks with summary transfers and accusations of negligence following army raids of illegal businesses apparently operating openly under the noses of police.
