The ambassadors of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway jointly visited Cotabato City and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September 2025. It was the first Nordic mission to the region.

During the two-day visit, the Nordic delegation met with BARMM Interim Chief Minister Abdulrauf Macacua, as well as leaders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), including Chair Ahod Balawag (Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim), Chief Negotiator and Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal, and Social Services and Development Minister Raissa Jajurie.

The programme also included meetings with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Independent Decommissioning Body, the Joint Peace and Security Committee, and the Joint Peace and Security Teams. Civil society organisations in BARMM presented their initiatives and thematic priorities to the ambassadors.

According to the embassies, the mission was a strong message of international support for the peace and development of the region and highlighted the long-term Nordic and EU contributions to peace in the Philippines.
