Norway and Indonesia have reviewed cooperation on conservation and forest-fire prevention during a visit to Way Kambas National Park in Indonesia’s Lampung province, according to Radio Republic Indonesia (RRI)
Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Kaja Glomm and Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni visited the national park on September 20 to inspect efforts to prevent forest and land fires and protect endangered wildlife, including Sumatran elephants and rhinos.
The visit focused on managing Way Kambas as an integrated landscape, including fire prevention, habitat protection and reducing conflicts between wildlife and surrounding communities. Indonesian authorities said the park is using fire-monitoring systems, observation posts and joint teams to respond to potential fires.
For Norway, the visit highlights its environmental cooperation with Indonesia, while for Indonesia, Way Kambas is an important conservation area for several threatened species.
The two sides are expected to continue cooperation on conservation and environmental protection, although the latest reports did not announce a new funding agreement or specific Norwegian financial commitment.
