
Norwegian Offshore Wind has signed an agreement with three Taiwanese research organisations to cooperate on floating offshore wind technology and supply chains.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the ONS 2026 energy conference in Stavanger with Taiwan’s Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC), Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center (SOIC).
The partnership will focus on developing offshore wind projects in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as cooperation on testing sites, technology and cross-border supply chains.
Taiwan is preparing to launch its first floating offshore wind demonstration programme in 2026. Norwegian Offshore Wind said Taiwanese research teams plan to test floating wind infrastructure at the METCentre, an offshore wind test site off Karmøy in Norway.
For Norway, the cooperation offers an opportunity to bring its experience with floating offshore wind to the growing Asian market. Norway is also developing its own floating wind industry, including projects at Utsira Nord, where the deep waters require floating technology.
Taiwan has set an ambition to develop 55 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050, according to Norwegian Offshore Wind.
